Maleku are an indigenous people who still inhabit Costa Rica. Maleku folklore tells tales of the Caracche; a small, one-meter high beings who inhabit the forest and who stand on top of one another to reach fruits from the trees, including cacao pods. This cacao was not picked by Caraccha, but the skilled farmers of the Upala region.
